The Story of How this Site Came to Exist

R22 helicopter above airfieldWelcome to Must-Fly.com, Helen Krasner’s website for those who fly, or used to, or might some day, or wish they did – either as pilots or passengers.  But perhaps more explanation is required…

As many of you will know, Helen has been writing about aviation for many years. She has had a number of books published, and she has hundreds of articles which have appeared in various magazines and on different websites. Some of these are long gone or difficult to find, and at times various people have asked Helen how they can read more of her writing. So she decided to make her shorter articles and details of her books all available in one place, and hence the idea for this website was born...

Therefore this site – which is currently a work in progress and will be for some time – will eventually include almost all of Helen’s shorter articles (some of the longer ones will not be here as they have often been included in Helen's books), details of her books, and of course some new stuff as well eventually. It is divided loosely into sections – on helicopters, other types of flying, and details of all Helen’s books and where you can buy them. So you can check out the sections which interest you, or just browse and see what’s new. Helen will be adding to the site over the next few days, weeks, and months, so the latter is definitely recommended in any case. And feel free to let Helen know what you think of it – comments are most welcome.

So read…and enjoy….

About Helen

Writing, Flying, and Many Other Things

Helen Krasner june 2010Helen has been writing for most of her life. At the age of seven, a school teacher thought her short stories were so good that she took them home for Christmas to show the family - unfortunately she then lost them! Five years later, when she was 12, Helen had her first article published in a national newspaper, and after that she never looked back.

However, Helen has always done many other things besides writing. She has travelled the world, visiting around 70 countries. She has a degree in psychology and has worked as an occupational psychologist, she has been a meditation teacher, and she worked in marketing and market research for some years. She practises yoga, has a longstanding interest in complimentary medicine, and has been a cat owner for around 30 years. She also flies both small aeroplanes and helicopters, and holds a Commercial Helicopter Licence and Instructor's Rating.

Helen combines all these interests and many others in her writing.  She writes mainly on aviation for a number of magazines and websites, and in 2004 one of her aviation articles was short-listed for an 'Aerospace Journalist of the Year' award.  has had regular articles in the magazine 'Pilot', and has monthly slots in 'Flight Training News' and 'Global Aviator'.  Her work has included flight test articles, instructional features, and profiles of famous pilots. She is also the former newsletter editor for the British Women Pilots Association.  Helen has also had articles on non-aviation subjects published in 'Your Cat', 'Visa', and various other publications.

Helen used to instruct part time for Staffordshire Helicopters at Tatenhill Airfield, near Burton-on-Trent, in the East Midlands in England. In addition she has written a book, 'The Helicopter Pilot's Companion', which was published by Crowood Press in October 2008, and followed by a second book, 'Flying Helicopters - a Companion to the PPL(H)' in August 2011. These are not her first published books; that honour goes to 'Midges, Maps and Muesli', an account of a 5,000 mile walk around the coast of Britain which she completed in 1987. Signed copies of this book still available from Helen.  Helen has also written a number of aviation ebooks; details are available on this site.

Helen continues to write on anything which interests her and hopes to do so for many more years.
